Credit Card Rewards

The fastest way to accumulate travel rewards points is by opening new credit cards and spending enough in the first few months of opening the card to earn the opening bonus.  If you’ve already opened 5 new credit lines (credit cards, lines of credit, in-store credit, etc.) within the last 24 months, then Chase will not approve you for a new card even if you otherwise qualify for it.

After you’ve earned the opening bonus on a particular card, use it primarily for the ongoing bonus categories (restaurants, gas stations, etc.).

I’ve provided referral links and summaries of the current offers (as of the date of publication) for each of the cards below.  Several of the links work for more than one card.  If you use these links and are approved for the card(s), then I earn some points, too.  Thanks!

For any credit card strategy to work for you, you need to pay off the card(s) in full each month.  If you don’t, you’ll be paying more in interest to the credit card issuer than the benefits that they’re providing with the card.

Ultimate Rewards cards – If you have any of the first four of these cards (Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve for Business, or Ink Business Preferred), then you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to any of Chase’s 14 travel partners (United, Southwest, Air Canada, etc.), even if you earned the points on a different card.
